Over 200,000 Georgia voters could be headed for inactive status, according to the Georgia Secretary of State’s office, which announced Tuesday that it completed the Summer 2025 “No Contact” audit of Georgia’s voter registration list. The office said it sent out notices via postcard to the 218,951 currently active status voters identified in the audit who had no reported voter activity in the past five years.
“Voters who do not respond to the notice will have their registration status changed to ‘Inactive,'” said the Georgia Secretary of State’s office. “If they remain in Inactive status for two or more even-year general elections (2026 and 2028), then they will be part of the registration cancellation process in 2029.”
Fulton County, the state’s most populous county, had the most voters on the “No Contact” list with 24,155, or about 2.2% of registered voters. Gwinnett County had the second most, with 17,547—about 2.7% of registered voters—and DeKalb County had the third most, with 15,325—about 2% of registered voters.
Of Georgia’s 20 most populous counties, Carrol, Clayton, Bibb and Hall Counties were the hardest hit proportionally, all with 3.5% or more of registered voters moved to the “No Contact” list.
Almost one million of Georgia’s 8,390,590 registered voters are already on inactive status, according to data from the Secretary of State’s Election Data Hub. In June, the Secretary of State announced its plan to remove 500,000 inactive voters from Georgia’s voter registration rolls.
Voters on the “No Contact” list can reactivate their status by either responding to the mailer sent to their registration address, completing online voter registration or reviewing their registration on the Georgia Secretary of State’s My Voter Page. Voters on the inactive list can still vote in person or request an absentee ballot. Participating in an election will also restore a voter to active status.
The voter registration deadline for the upcoming November 2025 state and local General Election is Oct. 6, 2025.
The Atlanta Community Press Collective created a database of Georgia’s “No Contact” voters set to be purged in 2029. The database is searchable by last name and filterable by county.
